I've really enjoyed the Notting Hill Carnival in the six years I have been with The Ruff Diamond Explosion carnival masquerade band, but there have been a few changes that I've not been keen on in the past two years.
The first big change at this year's carnival was to alter the judging point into a performance area. I didn't think this was a good idea because when you are performing on a proper stage the judges can see you along with people in the crowd, which makes me want to try harder to please everyone so that they appreciate the costumes and dance routines. But since the performance area is now on the ground, it feels like you are still on the carnival route. I also did not know where the judges were sitting and therefore felt I had missed the opportunity to impress them.
