Soap star launches childcare campaign

Early Years
The government has enlisted the help of soap star Angela Griffin to raise awareness of free childcare for three- and four-year-olds.

Children's minister Beverley Hughes and former Coronation Street star Griffin launched the Altogether Better for Children campaign at Marsham Street Children's Centre in Westminster last week.

The campaign is a long-term initiative to highlight what free childcare is available to parents and how they can access it. Information for parents will be sent to children's centres to accompany the campaign.

Griffin said: "It's important every parent knows what's available so they can make an informed decision. Parents should explore their options and visit their local nursery or children's centre so they can see the great facilities first-hand."

Hughes added: "We want parents to understand the positive effect early learning has on children and to raise awareness of the affordable options available in their community. We want to ensure all children benefit, regardless of background."
