Should academies run struggling primary schools?

Junior schools minister Lord Andrew Adonis last week approved plans to let Hirst Academy school in Northumberland take over the management of three feeder primary schools to improve their standards.

The concept of all-through schools under one management is a good idea and the experience we have indicates they work extremely well.

Head teachers in the secondary sector who have run more than one school bring a wider experience which can be beneficial to a struggling primary school.

We need to get away from the sectarianism of primary, secondary and tertiary education. My ideal would be a unified campus where you have all three represented.
