According to the department, chlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted infection among young people. Sixteen primary care trust areas in England will be added to the programme, into which 35m is being ploughed. It started with 10 areas and now numbers 50.
Youth sexual health advice service Brook is distributing pocket guides targeting young people as part of its 40th anniversary celebration this year. Released next week, the Nothing but the Facts guides will cover information on chlamydia, as well as access to advice and contraception.
According to figures released last November by the Health Protection Agency, the highest rates of diagnosis for chlamydia were among women aged 16 to 19, with 1,209 per 100,00 infected, and men aged 20 to 24, with 842 infected per 100,000.
