Self-harm: Young people are failed by the NHS

The NHS is failing young people who self-harm according to the fourth interim report from the National Inquiry into Self Harm Among Young People.

The report concluded that key NHS services such as accident andemergency departments, GPs and ambulance services, needed to gain abetter understanding and awareness of what self-harm entails in order torespond better to the problem.

"The current services of care are not appropriate and are not making theimpact that they could," said Dr Marcia Brophy, the inquiry's projectmanager.
