Scottish plans to combat child abuse

1 min read Social Care
Young people affected by domestic violence should be protected during contact visits with an abusive parent, the Scottish government has said.

In its National Domestic Abuse Delivery Plan, the Scottish government outlines 13 objectives to prevent children suffering domestic abuse.

It says the NHS should improve its identification of abuse victims and specialist approaches should be developed for these cases. It adds that all children affected by domestic violence should have specialist services to meet their needs and the way school staff respond to cases should be improved. Children helped to make recommendations for the plan.

Heather Coady, children's policy worker at charity Scottish Women's Aid, said: "The government has taken the message that children and young people affected by domestic abuse need to be listened to."
