The full cost of local safeguarding children boards could be manytimes the cost of the area child protection committees they replace, itemerged last week.
Bolton council has revealed that its board is likely to cost more than100,000 a year because of its wider remit compared to theprotection committee.
Speaking at Children Now's child protection conference last week, thecouncil's head of child protection, Jane Maddison, said: "The costs arelikely to go up 10-fold, this is a major increase in terms of financialinvestment." Professionals called for more funding to meet the costs.But Colin Green, divisional manager, for child protection at theDepartment for Education and Skills, said there was money availablethrough the Change for Children programme and safeguarding childrengrants could be used to establish boards.
