All agencies and voluntary and community organisations that work with children who are being sexually exploited, or who are at risk of sexual exploitation, are urged to take part in the consultation. The guidance aims to help police, teachers, social workers and health workers.
The draft document stipulates that local authorities, together with children's trust partners, should ensure that local needs assessments include the issue of sexual exploitation. It also says that, following a referral, local authority children's social care should ensure the needs of all children at risk of sexual exploitation are assessed. In addition, the guidance also recommends Connexions staff should be alert to the signs of sexual exploitation and follow local protocols.
