Carlie Annetts of Andover, Hampshire, whose 12-year-old son Troy was killed in 2002, said that while people in cars had to wear seat belts and motorcyclists and young horse riders had to wear helmets, "no such measures have so far been taken to protect the hundreds of thousands of youngsters who ride a bike every day".
The Bill, introduced by Eric Martlew, MP for Carlisle, had its first reading in the Commons this month. The Bicycle Helmet Initiative Trust is rallying support in preparation for its main hurdle, the second reading on 23 April.
