The pack is produced by The Electoral Commission, which is independent of government and political parties, meaning that what is offered in the pack is presented in a non-biased way that encourages young people to explore what is out there and make their own decisions.
The first part of the pack, "Ingredients", contains facts and figures about politics, democracy, laws and elections. It suggests ideas to raise political awareness, but makes no assumptions about young people's prior knowledge, encouraging them instead to think about the impact that politics has on their lives and work from there. From the levels of pesticides used on food, to European Union directives on what happens to old mobile phones after they are thrown away, it soon becomes apparent that politics is relevant to everyone.
