Resources: Review - A theological take on rights legislation

1 min read
The aim of this book is to show that the promotion of the rights of vulnerable people, especially children, can be an effective way of promoting the Christian agenda.

To get to the heart of this subject, the book goes into some detail about the history, context and content of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Reservations towards the convention from a faith perspective are explained, then dissected with counter-arguments provided.

These first sections provide an important foundation for the more interesting parts that follow: the difference between children's rights and adult rights, human rights and the churches, a theological look at children's rights and the ultimate question: "What is it all for - what kind of a life is it that our efforts to nurture and protect are meant to foster?"
