The video is produced by Transport 2000 and the Children's Play Council and contains two programmes. A 40-minute version is designed as a resource for anyone living or working in communities interested in developing a Home Zone. A shorter version designed for use in public meetings lasts about 12 minutes. Both look at progress made on individual projects and highlight the views of residents involved in making them happen, particularly young people.
A Home Zone is a street or group of streets where pedestrians and cyclists have priority and cars travel at little more than walking pace. The idea has been around for more than 25 years, since communities took action in the Netherlands to create more than 6,500 Home Zones or "Woonerf" (Living Yards) in the 1960s. The concept and practice have come a long way since.
