This is often most keenly felt by those in services sometimes seen by commissioners as a bit of a luxury; not absolutely essential. Despite daily headlines warning of a growing childhood obesity crisis and a disconnect with nature, outdoor play and the need for children to experience adventure has fallen foul of this new funding culture.
So, it is heartening to read that residential trips are rising to this challenge. Youth organisations are pooling their resources – both physical and financial – to ensure as many young people as possible can take part in activities at one of the residential outdoor centres across the country.
