SUMMARY
As of last month, young people in England are required to stay in education or training until they are 17. From 2015, this will rise to 18. The government has said it will not enforce this, so there will be no penalties for young people who do drop out. However, local authorities have been working on pilot schemes to engage and retain young people in post-16 education, and this report - Research into the Phase 4 Locally-led Delivery Projects for Raising the Participation Age - looks at the challenges they face and how effective projects have been.
