SUMMARY

The authors of this study set out to paint an accurate picture of kinship care arrangements in the UK. They wanted to find out how many children were living with relatives instead of their own parents, and examine the characteristics of the children and the families. They were particularly interested in levels of poverty among kinship carers. The report authors hope their research will provide a baseline for future studies and also help professionals and policymakers meet the needs of carers and children in this situation.
