Williams syndrome is a rare neurodevelopmental disorder. It is caused by a chromosoal abnormality, where about 26 genes from the long arm of chromosome 7 are deleted. It was first identified in 1961 by Dr JCP Williams from New Zealand.

90% show great distress on hearing loud noises
1 in 25,000 incidence of Williams syndrome
1,300 known cases in the UK in 2002
