After five years of work, researchers at Cardiff University's medical school have managed to clone Cytomegalovirus (CMV), which is a leading cause of birth defects, and are hoping this will enable them to develop a vaccine

 

80% of all adults over 40 have been infected by CMV

1 in 200 babies will be born with congenital CMV

10% of those born with CMV will have symptoms at birth
