Queen set to announce wide-ranging skills Bill

Details of a new wide-ranging Bill for children and young people will be unveiled on 3 December in the Queen's Speech, CYP Now has learned.

Proposals for a new education and skills Bill were put forward in thegovernment's draft legislative programme earlier this year.

But the new Bill, which could include up to 200 clauses, will insteadhave a broader title to reflect its more varied content.

The Bill, which may only be announced in draft form, will be used tobolt down government policies and address so-called leftovers from otherlegislative changes. This will include legislating for the transfer offunding for 16 to 19 education from the Learning and Skills Council tolocal authorities.

Legislation is expected to cover children's trusts, transport for to andfrom colleges and the transfer of funding for young offender educationto local authorities.
