Quality of residential care hit by local authority cuts

1 min read Social Care
Residential care providers are having to dilute the quality of their services because of local authority cost cutting.

The findings come from a survey conducted by the National Care Association among residential care providers, which is due to be published this month. Seen exclusively by CYP Now, it shows that a relentless drive to make savings in commissioning residential care placements and a lack of understanding around costs has affected quality.

The survey shows more than a quarter of providers have made cuts in training over the past 12 months. Around 15 per cent have also had to cut therapeutic and psychological treatments. Many providers believe these trends are set to worsen as public sector cuts kick in during the next financial year.
