So when a pupil has to be excluded, this is a very serious matter and rightly, there are checks and balances to make sure that exclusions are fair. But by the time an exclusion is being considered, matters have become very difficult, and even if a pupil is reinstated, the outcomes are often not good.
The best schools work hard to avoid exclusions, well before the point of crisis. They work on the basis of prevention and early intervention. So they create an environment in which good behaviour is actively encouraged and where signs of trouble are acted on quickly and decisively.
