Public in favour of lower voting age

The majority of the public are in favour of lowering the voting age to 16, a poll published by a government-backed commission has found.

The Youth Citizenship Commission consulted approximately 500 people and found that 66 per cent supported lowering the voting age to 16.

Votes at 16 Coalition spokesman Jonathan Pyke said: "MPs from all parties have spoken of the need to get young people more engaged in politics. If they want to give these words meaning they will throw their weight behind this change."
