Sue Woolmore, LSCB advisor for the NSPCC, said: "We sit on two-thirds of boards and a significant number have approached the NSPCC to see if we can assist them to see if they are making a difference.
"We know the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) is keen on doing that. It recognises that boards are looking for some kind of tool to measure whether they are good."
Woolmore said the child protection charity would like to work with the DCSF to produce such a tool. She said it would be important that any evaluation tool uses inform ation already collected by the boards.
