Prisoners' families: Every picture tells a story

A fist punching a sheet of glass. A table loaded with instruments of harm. A young man walking away down an alleyway with high walls seeming to bear down on either side.

When a group of young people with family members in prison was asked to create pictures expressing their feelings, these were some of the images they came up with. An intensive three-day photography course, organised and funded by the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund and run by Photo-Voice, helped the young people to gain skills such as setting up shots and using cameras. PhotoVoice is an international non-profit organisation that supports people in need around the world to use photography as a medium to speak out about their concerns, hopes and fears. Most of its work is with young people, according to founder and director Tiffany Fairey.
