
Schools in Somerset, Bradford and Walsall started testing the PrimaryTalk project in December 2007. Designed by children's communicationcharity I Can in partnership with Somerset County Council, the schemeaccredits schools for creating "communication-rich environments".
Last week, the government told all primary schools to place moreimportance on speaking and listening skills following education expertSir Jim Rose's review of the primary curriculum.
Somerset, Bradford and Walsall are now training up their own accreditorsand trainers with a view to getting all schools in the areainvolved.
Jim McHugh, school improvement officer for Education Bradford, whichsupports the provision of education on behalf of Bradford Council, said:"The project is about raising quality right through schools, teachersand support staff. We are really pleased with the staff reaction - it iscertainly making a positive difference."
