I could say that I was passionate about the complacency surrounding the spread of HIV and Aids across the world, but to be honest I'm just plain angry. And so are the 10 million girls and young women who belong to the Girl Guide and Girl Scout movement. In our survey of 6,000 young women from 100 countries, their first demand was that the world should wake up and "fight Aids" as a top priority. Almost a quarter of respondents knew someone who was HIV positive.
Across the world, 76 per cent of all the young people who are now infected with HIV are female and the infection rate among women is climbing much faster than for men, with 60 per cent of all new transmissions being female.
