POLICY & PRACTICE: Briefing - Trust funds will help every child inUK

2 mins read

Children's Trust Funds? Is this for Annabel and Rupert in Notting Hill? Don't mock: this is a Very Important Idea for New Labour. Every baby born from September 2002 will be given between 250 and 500, depending on family income, that will go into a trust fund that matures when they are 18.

All being well, the trust will be topped up with further payments at the ages of five, 11 and 16. Depending on growth rates the fund could amount to up to 5,000 when it matures: far more if family and friends are able to put their own regular savings into it (limited to 1,000 a year).
