Police and schools connect to help Gateshead tackle domestic abuse

At a time when government has highlighted the need to improve local domestic violence services, the support provided by Gateshead Council has been praised - with good information sharing between agencies at its heart.

An Ofsted inspection of Gateshead Council’s children and families services resulted in an overall judgment of “good” in a report published in March.

As well as finding that “children are at the heart of good practice” in Gateshead, the report highlighted how the council’s work in domestic violence support and prevention was a particular strength, leading to much earlier identification of children in need of help and protection.

This was particularly gratifying to read, as our current domestic violence services fall within a partnership with a number of local agencies – all working together to give the best possible support to the borough’s most vulnerable.
