Participation: UK Youth Parliament to streamline campaigns

It will spend the coming year pushing for compulsory sex and relationships education, a national concessionary travel scheme and lowering the voting age to 16. These goals are the most achievable, as campaigning is already under way for them.

The move marks the latest step in a gradual reform of the organisation's work plan led by chief executive Andy Hamflett, who took on the post last year.

"The organisation is brilliant at raising awareness among young people," he said. "By streamlining the process, we can clearly communicate what these issues are and form strategic partnerships to act on them."

At the previous annual sittings, young people have devoted much of the time to compiling a manifesto, something that Hamflett argues restricts opportunities to quiz professionals and experts.
