
A total of 29 young people, aged from nine to 19, gave up their time to share their thoughts on North Tyneside Council’s future strategy and budget.
High on the agenda was employment, with young people wanting to ensure that provision is available to help them access valuable employment opportunities.
Vicki Nixon, children’s participation and engagement team manager, said the exercise helped shape the council’s vision. "Some were looking to the future and saying that when they are old they do not want to be forced to have to leave the borough to live or work," she said.
North Tyneside’s young mayor is 15-year-old Rebecca Leighton. She was one of the young people to take part in the event, saying: "I think it is great that young people are consulted about the future of North Tyneside as it is our future being shaped."
