The project, DAiR To ..., has been launched by DanceXchange, the National Dance Agency for Birmingham and the West Midlands, in partnership with The Stoke-on-Trent Theatres, Solihull Arts Complex, Dudley Community Dance Consortium and Border Dance in Shropshire.
The five venues will each employ a dance artist in residence (DAiR) who will create activities linked to the venue's programme of work. The five artists are creating a programme to tour secondary schools to promote the project.
Jane Ralls, dance development director at DanceXchange, said: "The project will focus on contemporary dance but the artists can also do other forms of dance. We hope to target hard-to-reach young people, for example through pupil referral units." Ralls also wants to work with Birmingham's Gifted and Talented programme.
