The academy will have three main objectives: to provide training,development and support for the parenting workforce; to act as anational centre for academic research; and to provide continuing supportfor the Government's parenting agenda.
Hughes said: "Developing the skills of those who work with parents iscrucial if we are to extract the full benefits for children from ourpolicies and services."
Mary McLeod, chief executive of the National Family and ParentingInstitute, said: "We welcome this, but would like the remit to includepeople who work with families and children."
