The Bill was originally targeted at parents of children in localauthority schools, and it aimed to strengthen parental involvement ineducation.
But Children in Scotland argued that to make cultural changes inparental attitudes to involvement, it was essential that parents wereencouraged to be involved from when their child first attended nursery.Last week, the Scottish Parliament's Education Committee agreedunanimously to this change.
Bronwen Cohen, chief executive of Children in Scotland, said: "We aredelighted. The relationship between parents and services needs to beaddressed before children start school."
The Bill was also changed to ensure pupils are consulted when a parentcouncil is established. Cohen said: "Involving children and young peopleis central to ensuring that they are effective."
