Over-sized insects help to improve school attendance

Primary school children in Manchester have been encouraged to improve their attendance by some rather unusual visitors.

The Attend Ants, a colony of child-friendly ants, have spent the past six weeks at primary schools across the city on a mission to improve attendance. Councillor Sheila Newman, executive member for children's services at the city council, said: "We hope the story of the Attend Ants will stay with the children until they return in September to remind them of the importance of being in school every day."
