Jerry was a Birmingham social worker who understood kids. He was an inspirational practitioner and established the now almost legendary 870 House, a charity for young people in difficulties. He lived in 870 and his commitment to his charges was 24/7. Jerry never even went to the supermarket without taking one of the residents with him, helping them understand budgeting and shopping properly for food.
The National Youth Bureau committee he chaired argued that all young people were potentially at risk. The challenge was to ensure that they got the right services at the right time. Where have we heard that one before?
