Recently, I've visited more than 30 nurseries. Many managers wereworried about the extra play resources they have been advised toacquire. I too am concerned by the duplication of play resources.
Where previously there would have been one messy play room, now eachroom has different areas. This means some rooms are overcrowded. Staffhave to move from activity to activity, rather than enjoying a moreleisurely opportunity to sit and build relationships with thechildren.
From what I have seen, children's needs for safety and comfort are beingpushed aside in favour of their curricular needs.
Some nurseries with lots of space were happy with 10 play areas but, unfortunately, these were in the minority.
