Chris Barrett's work in the Bullring area of Liverpool was profiled in The Liverpool Echo and Evening Express. It started when he met teenagers on street corners, while he was doing detached work. But sometimes he met older ones in public houses; could that be conceived of today?
The original idea for the Bronte Street Youth Club he helped establish was "based mainly on the coffee bar", but, under Barrett's guidance, "a wider range of activities" developed. Essentially, the demand from young people was for somewhere to go and something to do. Forty years on, we have returned to the same challenge.
