Thanks to your editorial's affirming comments about faith-specificprojects (Youth Work Now, May 2008). Often, especially in rural areas, the Church is the only provider of youth work activities.
But while I encourage churches to run programmes that are open to all,for young people who have grown up in a Christian culture afaith-specific group can empower them and give them confidence toexplore their faith in a safe place.
I host a camp for Christian young people and their friends. More than400 young people come from across Sussex and it is great to see themencouraged in their faith.
It is important that youth workers do both targeted and general youthwork as either may allow them to pick up young people who otherwisewould not engage with what is available in their local community.
