The survey questioned 122 young people aged 15 to 24 as part of a larger survey of 2,048 people. It found that young people and over-55s were the two least likely groups to know how to prevent HIV transmission. Just over half of young people said they would always use a condom with a new partner.
On attitudes to those with HIV and Aids, more than four in 10 young people felt that drug users who were infected by HIV through needles only had themselves to blame. More than three in 10 thought people who contracted HIV after having sex without a condom only had themselves to blame.
