
The shocking child abuse scandals that have dominated the headlines of late highlight the extent to which support for victims and families is still lacking. They also underline the fact that the voices of children and young people are too often ignored by those supposed to protect them.
It is an issue that the NSPCC is attempting to tackle as part of a programme in 10 areas across the UK. The charity’s Assessing the Risk, Protecting the Child initiative started within the past year. It is working with alleged child sex offenders and those who have historic convictions, alongside the families they come into contact with.
