Northern Ireland Sport court to span sectarian divide

1 min read

The Mount Sports Zone in Tigers Bay, which is bordered by three sectarian interfaces, will provide a multi-games court.

As part of the project, local people, supported by Groundwork Northern Ireland and North Belfast Prisoners Aid, removed a huge paramilitary mural that overlooked the site. Young people then helped to design an entrance sign to create a sense of cross-community ownership.

Eddie McClean, community worker at Tigers Bay, who has been campaigning for the new facility for more than a year, said: "There has been a chronic shortage of play facilities in the area, so this is marvellous news for both children and parents. This facility will provide a safe and secure environment where young people can play and their parents can easily help supervise them."
