No sign of fund for young people

Millions of pounds worth of unclaimed assets pledged in 2008 to develop new youth facilities are still no closer to being made available.

The Dormant Bank and Building Society Accounts Act 2008 legislated for up to £400m of unclaimed assets to be spent on charitable causes such as youth projects.

The money is due to be made available via a reclaim fund as part of the Dormant Bank Accounts Scheme.

But in response to a Freedom of Information request made by CYP Now, a Treasury spokeswoman revealed it was still unable to give a date when the funds will be released.

"There are a number of factors which influence the timing of the establishment of the reclaim fund, many of which are outside the government's control," she said. "It is not possible to put a specific date on the expected establishment of the fund."
