No quick fix for health visitors

It will take more than three years before the numbers of health visitors can reach appropriate levels, it has been claimed.

Speaking after a summit meeting on health visitors last week, Dr CheryllAdams, strategy and practice development officer at the CommunityPractitioners' and Health Visitors' Association, said: "It is going tobe difficult to get the workforce to where it needs to be in terms ofnumbers in the short to medium term."

Statistics show there were 8,764 full-time health visitor posts inSeptember 2008, down from more than 10,000 in 2004.
