News round-up: Police - Stockport creates Police Academy

Young people in Stockport are taking part in a Police Academy-style project to improve relations between the younger residents and the rest of the community.

The initiative is being run at the Adswood Youth Centre and aims to show the impact young people can make on their neighbourhood by teaming up with other agencies. Young people will work closely with police community support officers from Greater Manchester as part of the accredited course, worth the equivalent of half a GCSE.

Councillor Mark Weldon, executive member for children and young people, said: "It will provide an opportunity for young people to develop a sense of community pride."
