The government's coalition agreement contains no reference to youth policy, except for the proposal of a summer-long National Citizen Service for 16-year-olds. Joe Lepper asks leading figures what they believe the future will be for services for young people.

COALITION HAS SNUBBED LIB DEM PLANS FOR THE YOUNG

I'm annoyed that a number of key policies in the Liberal Democrat manifesto have not made it into the coalition's policy document. This included making the youth service statutory so that it can be placed on a secure footing with funding. The manifesto also looks at encouraging councils to provide youth services in partnership with young people and the voluntary sector.

The lack of any detail to emerge from the coalition about young people and youth services is also a concern, and when the (Lib Dem) national policy making committee next meets I'm hoping that it is discussed.
