Following the Youth Justice Board's (YJB) annual convention last week, Neil Puffett examines the sober mood of the event and the themes of future policy.

Thousands of golf fans were in raptures as Europe dramatically clinched the Ryder Cup at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport in October. Fast forward to November and delegates attending the YJB annual convention at the same venue were in an altogether more sober mood.

Spending cuts combined with uncertainty over policy and the recent decision to dissolve the YJB have left lingering questions and concerns.

Sentencing green paper

The green paper on sentencing is likely to give a clearer indication of the direction of travel, although the fact it is not due to be published until this week meant detail on policy was sparse at the convention.
