"This is the biggest cut to information, advice and guidance (IAG) I can ever recall," says Steve Stewart, chief executive of Connexions Coventry and Warwickshire. "The Chancellor said he was cutting £6.2bn of 'waste' and everyone asked 'where the bloody hell is there £6.2bn of waste?' Now we're beginning to find out - it is in frontline services."
Connexions Coventry and Warwickshire will have its budget slashed by 24 per cent over the next two years. But Coventry and Warwickshire is among the more lucky Connexions services.
Of the 56 heads of Connexions who responded to a CYP Now survey on the future of the service, more than one in 10 say they face budget cuts of between 41 and 50 per cent this year. Another 43 per cent are expecting to lose at least a fifth of their budget.
