NEWS IN BRIEF: School security matter for heads

The Department for Education and Skills (DfES) has said that school security is matter for individual head teachers, following a call from NASUWT for the introduction of "airport style" spot searches of pupils, to combat the carrying of offensive weapons. The union made the call just before the joint DfES and Home Office school security working party met last week.
