Pregnant women should eat folic acid, fortified bread and cereals as well as taking supplements, according to a study in the British Medical Journal. Researchers monitoring 13 million births in Europe and Israel found there had been little effect on neural tube defects, such as spina bifida, because women ignored recommendations.
