The results of the ballot for a new general secretary for Britain's biggest teaching union, the NUT, were due yesterday (Tuesday). The candidates were the union's head of education, John Bangs; Ian Murch, national executive member for Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield; Martin Powell-Davies, secretary of Lewisham NUT; and deputy general secretary Steve Sinnott.
