As Children Now went to press, children's minister Margaret Hodge announced timetables for councils to identify care cases that are affected by the Angela Cannings judgment. Within the next four weeks, councils must identify and review current cases where courts have not yet made final care orders. And, within the next 12 weeks, they must identify cases where a final care order made in the past depended on serious disagreement between medical experts about the cause of harm. She also estimated that the number of cases was likely to be in the low hundreds, not thousands.
